Why be an Elder at Southland?
To serve God in the way I believe He is leading me to serve. To be in a position to support Staff and Ministries in their efforts to lead people to Jesus and teaching them to grow in Him.
When and how did you first come to Southland?
Transferred membership from Owensboro Christian Church in 1978.
What’s your daily routine like of connecting with God?
Reading and meditating on scripture each morning and praying for issues and people during the day as the Holy Spirit brings them to my mind.
What’s your favorite area to serve in at Southland?
Prayer Ministry.
What’s your life group or Biblical community like?
In His Steps Sunday School Class. Meet each week after Worship Service for Bible Study and Prayer. Meet once each month for lunch and fellowship. Financially supports various Mission Efforts.
What’s your wife’s name and kids names/ages (include grandkids) and how long have you been married?
My wife’s name is Phyllis T Coburn. My son’s name is Clay Coburn and his age is 48. I have two Grandsons, Mason Coburn age 15 and Cai Coburn age 13. Phyllis and I have been married for 58 years.
What do you do for a living?
Retired from Ashland Inc.
What do you do for fun?
The most fun part of my life is meeting my Grandsons after school and staying with them until their parents get home from work. I enjoy watching their soccer games. Also enjoy gardening.
What’s one book that has impacted you?
Other than the Bible, Andrew Murray’s book, Abide in Christ.
