Why be an elder at Southland?
An opportunity to serve and use my skills and talents for the glory of God.

When and how did you first come to Southland?
I think it was 1994, maybe 1995.

What’s your daily routine like of connecting with God?
I start my day with Bible reading/studying and prayer. Any reading of books happen in the evening.

What’s your favorite area to serve in at Southland?
Life Group leader and prayer team.

What’s your life group or Biblical community like?
My life group of men (former Leadership Development Group) continues with meeting twice per month.

What’s your wife’s name and kids’ names/ages (include grandkids) and how long have you been married?
My bride of 43 years in September is Pat. Daughter – Trisha (36) and her husband Matt Layow have three children: Cole (6.5) and Savanah and Scarlett (3.5) Son - Brent (33) lives in Texas.

What do you do for a living?
University Professor

What do you do for fun?
Play with grandchildren and anything outside - horses, mowing, landscape gardening, fishing.

What’s one book that has impacted you?
Practicing the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence.

What’s something God’s been teaching you lately?
He is God and I am not. I am not in control, especially for others, and I am continually learning to recognize that fact.
