What famous person do people tell you look like?
Tom Cruise or a young Paul Newman.
What was your first job?
Newspaper delivery route when I was 9.
Favorite season, and why?
Tough choice between spring or fall as my favorite season, so I’ll choose both, and for similar reasons. I love the moderate temperatures, the beauty of nature and the change that is occurring. Both of these seasons make me feel very positive and relaxed, yet energetic and ready to tackle new challenges.
What’s one book that has impacted you?
The Book of Proverbs. I can’t think of another book that has impacted how I think, act and respond more than Proverbs.
When did you first come to Southland?
I first started attending Southland in 1989 as a student at Asbury University.
What was your childhood ambition?
I wanted to be an NFL wide-receiver.
What’s something God’s been teaching you lately you didn’t know before?
Urgency. As I get older, I’m more and more restless about the trajectory of our culture, the decline of fatherhood and our increasing apathy toward sin and salvation. I feel a building urgency to help slow this inevitable process for our church and community; and in particular, I feel an urgency to ground my boys in Christ before they are overwhelmed by culture.
One of your proudest moments?
One of my most uncomfortable, difficult, and yet proudest moments/seasons was helping rescue someone close to me from a destructive addiction.
