What are You Hungry for?
We've been studying the temptation of Jesus in our Student Ministries home groups recently. There are three different temptations within the narrative, the first being about hunger. We are told Jesus goes out for 40 days into the desert and then he was hungry. Satan comes to him and tempts him saying, "Turn these stones into bread".
Satan knows Jesus is the son of God and that Jesus is God. Jesus could very much turn the stones into bread but Jesus is hungry for something that is so much more. Jesus is hungry for the very word of God that comes from the mouth of God the Father.
Focus in on this. Forty days in the desert. Jesus eats no food. He is physically hungry (Jesus was fasting after His baptism). Satan challenges Jesus to turn the stones surrounding Him into bread to satisfy His hunger and Jesus resoundingly says, "No! People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God."
The challenge is this:
What are you most hungry for? Is it God? In John 6:35 Jesus says this to us, "I [Jesus] am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."
