Lasting Peace

Posted on Wed, Mar 30, 2011 under Weekend

"There is lasting peace for those who love your teachings. Nothing can make those people stumble." Psalm 119:165 (GWT)

I read an article recently about the top ten most stressful events in the lives of Americans. I was somewhat surprised that I have personally encountered four of the ten just recently. I was surprised, perhaps, because of how I feel. In a word, I feel 'peace.' Why do I feel such peace right now? Am I denying my true, natural feelings? No. I don't think so. At the moments of the occurrences, I felt rattled, but almost immediately I was overcome by something amazing. I believe I know what it was. Peace.

Nestled in the longest chapter in the Bible, Psalm 119, is a wonderful nugget, verse 165. When I came across this passage, there was that feeling again. Peace. Amidst all I have encountered, God stands. He gives me peace and therefore, no matter what I am going through, I too can stand. I love God's Word, the Bible. What a wonderful God He is to speak to us through Scripture. I love His teachings. It seems, no matter what, He keeps me from stumbling. Just as this verse tells us, He gives us peace.

As a relatively new staff member here at Southland, I am just beginning to meet many of the wonderful people who call Southland Christian Church home. I am discovering there are many folks who desire to follow the Lord have the same kind of peace about which I'm speaking. To those, I suggest the same type of journey I am trying to travel. Pray daily that God will lead you in His path and into the center of His will. If you are not doing so already, read a Psalm or Proverb or any Biblical book you enjoy – daily. Before reading, pray that God will bless your time in the Bible in such a way it helps you and helps others through you. He loves to say "yes" to prayers like that! He wants to have fellowship with you through His teachings. He wants you to have lasting peace.

I don't know what you're going through. I don't know if you are experiencing peace. However, I encourage you to take Psalm 119:165 to heart and remember, "There is lasting peace for those who love [God's Word]."
