"He is not here; he has risen, just as he said."

Best. News. Ever. Not one shred of any news in the entirety of human history has ever topped this one.

The best news of any life doesn’t hold a candle: You made the Dean’s List…  I want to marry you… Congratulations, it’s a… We’re promoting you…  It’s benign… Although it’s really good news, all of it.

Friends, four words are catching in my heart today, however: “just as he said.”

The Resurrection was foretold. Yes, by prophets of old. But also by Jesus Himself. Red-letter words, y’all.

John 2:18-22 declares,
… Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said …

Or what about Matthew 16:21?
From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

Veiled or clear, the words are His.
The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father. (John 10:17-18)

If Jesus says it, we can take it to the bank. Here’s why this is capturing me. How many other things did He say would happen? I’m a jump ahead of a fit thinking about what is yet to come! Aren’t you? Because He is not here. He has risen. Just as He said.

Do you feel it yet? There’s a rumbling. Sounds a bit like a stone being rolled away.

  • Take a few minutes and check out these verses you can take to the bank, too: John 14:1-4
