Skin Deep: Scar Tissue- Monday
"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."
I recently had a conversation about God with a really smart man. He’s a person of great intellect and academic pedigree. My friend doesn’t have any problem thinking there is some sort of higher intelligence that created the world, and will even call this “concept” God. However, when asked what he thinks of His Son, Jesus Christ, I was met with a derisive snort!
“Really? The idea that belief in one human being upon which all of our eternal hope is pinned, that’s a stretch. Jesus was a good man, a prophet, even. But God in the flesh? Not likely. Why would you think Jesus is the only way to reach God?”
Because, well, Easter…
Easter is the summation of all we hope for and believe. Without Easter, Christmas is just a really nice birthday party; Springtime is all chocolate bunnies and hidden eggs.
Just as Jesus is the dividing line in religious thought and apologetics, His Resurrection is the hinge-pin. His Resurrection sealed the deal on the Deity of Christ. He could’ve been a prophet, a really good teacher, philosopher, leader of leaders, social justice warrior. But, friends, without the Resurrection, He could not have been the Savior of the world. It wouldn’t be His name by which we must all be saved.
We are blessed to live in the age of the New Covenant. The one written in the blood of Jesus Christ, not on tablets of stone. The one in which the power of the Resurrected Christ lives inside each of us in the form of the Holy Spirit. The one in which the entire counsel of God is written down for us to use as a plumb line.
Listen, I simply don’t have the smarts to explain it with five-syllable words. I just live by one apologetic: A guy rises from the dead, I believe everything He says!
Because, well, Easter …
