Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor.
Wow. Writing the devos for this week has been a tremendous walk down memory lane for me. And a blending of past and present. You know the old adage, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” I’ve seen a lot of change at Southland over the years. But it makes me realize what I see happening at Southland is what I’ve always seen. Commitment to the family of God. And commitment to the families of God. The people of God being in the place of God, experiencing the presence of God. You and I know there is a war going on against the family. Why? Because the enemy has enough trouble when we as individuals come into right relationship with Jesus Christ, let alone when we team up! But the Bible tells us there is great strength in uniting as a family under the authority of the Holy Spirit. Our strength increases exponentially, as this verse in Ecclesiastes declares! The enemy loses and the Kingdom advances through the family of God. For over four decades I’ve seen this commitment to families play out through the ministry and teaching at Southland. The children’s and student ministries are amazing places where children are pointed to Jesus Christ and a biblical worldview. The constant and consistent commitment to strengthening marriages plays out across every ministry as we see families come to wholeness and live out the faithfulness of God. It’s really quite beautiful.
- In what way(s) do you sacrificially serve your family?
- Expression 2 says, "We sacrificially serve our families." Review this Expression, and it's challenge to pray together daily as a family, here.
Memorize Dueteronomy 7:9 this week.
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.
